Well, it’s been a while since I posted last and my apologies for staying in the dark so long.  I’ve recently changed the direction of the next book.  Whereas I was going to write about Jack’s early beginnings before the dreaded flu and subsequent vaccine, I decided to continue on with the story.  I had written a bit into the beginnings and will continue along with it but at a later point.  I had a friend write that part of the fun is the mystique and mystery of what Jack did before which adds to the story.  I realized that if I defined Jack, then that would lock him down.  Plus, we all have out vision of Jack and to define him might ruin that image.  I will write that companion novel but now it will more than likely come out after the story is told.

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful messages and reviews!  And, for sharing your thoughts and ideas.  They are all great and I enjoy getting and reading them.  Please keep that up!

For now, it’s on with the story.  I have the plot line figured out, but like the previous books, that goes out of the window when I actually start down the path.  I like to have it handy though.  I started the fourth book, A New World: Awakening, last night after carefully tucking Jack’s story away and managed to get a little more than 1,500 words into it.  More today.  I am hoping that I can be finished by the end of February but we’ll see how that goes.  Starting a whole new  part of the story is daunting.  But once started, the story takes over and it just flows – well, mostly.

I wish everyone a very happy and wonderful day!

  1. It is 7 am here in Sydney, Australia & I have just finished your New World series – couldn’t put it down. The only disappointment is I have to wait for a 4th book but thank god you are writing one! Loved the characters & their interactions & was on the edge of my seat in those intense battles with the night runners. End of the world, romance, human survival, maybe a new human species, humor, death, suspense, & a cliff hangar ending!! Love them John – looking forward to what happens next & no pressure or anything but hurry up!! Regards – Carol

    1. Hi Carol,

It makes my day to hear you enjoyed the series. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for the fourth book. The keyboard is smoking from my furious hammering. Sydney is a gorgeous city and I’m a little envious. I used to live just a little south of Melbourne. I hope you have a fantastically wonderful day! If you wouldn’t mind leaving a review and Amazon for each, I would be forever grateful. Again, I thank you for your kind words and feel free to drop by and say hi at any time!

  2. Great series and I am looking forward to the next book.

I find it interesting that the survivors would choose to enclose an area to protect themselves as in the long term as fuel, food etc runs out they would be severely limited in terms of options – in that circumstance I would imagine I would be looking for the sanctury of an island either in a bay / river etc which could be cleared of any dangers and assuming you had one big enough you would have room for growth, agriculture etc.

Anyway I am looking forward to the continuing series to see how you have imagined their continued adventure in the new world they have found themselves in.

    1. Hi Ross,

Thank you for writing and I’ glad to hear you are enjoying the books so far. My thought was that an island is difficult to monitor the shoreline during the night and the night runners can swim. I though to enclose the area for cattle and other means of food that the night runners might take that we would need. The agriculture can be grown anywhere without fear of the night runners consuming it. I do appreciate your thoughts and ideas though. I think there are many ways that survivors could manage within such an environment. I merely chose this because of the limited entrances for the initial survival. I welcome any and all ideas you might have though. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write and hope you are having a great day and week!

  3. Really great series I read all of them in less than a week, in looking forward to book 4. It’s weird because I grew up in the area where the book starts. I went to capital highschool and now I live in tumwater right down the street from the Fred myer where jack gets the watch. Great work!

    1. Hi Kyle,

Thank you very much! I’m glad you are liking the series so far. We’re practically neighbors. Kinda fun having it all happen close by. It allows a little more detail to be included. I am typing on the fourth book as we speak and will hopefully have it out soon. I thank you for both the kind words and you taking your time to let me know that you are enjoying it. Makes my day/night to hear that. If you wouldn’t mind leaving a review on Amazon as well for each, that would be truly appreciated as well! And, who knows, I am in the Fred Meyer and Cosco a bit, we might have already run into each other. I hope you have a great evening and week!

  4. Seriously has to be one of the best series of books I’ve read. And YES you have to have a 4th, 5th or whatever it takes to finish this series. BTW, sleeping at night has become a problem for me, since I let my imagination get the best of me. LOL Can’t hardly wait for the next one! Keep up the great work!
