It has been quite some time since I’ve posted an update, so I thought I’d sit down and catch up. It’s not that I’ve been overly busy, but laziness has a bit to do with it. I decided this year that I needed to do a better job of balancing work and life, so I took the Summer off from writing. Well, truth be told, there was a bit of Spring and Fall in there as well. I think that’s a schedule I’ll start keeping, especially as I have really taken to hiking and backpacking. There are a few multi-day trips I want to head out on this coming season, with the goal of hiking most of the trails through the Olympics within the next couple of years. There are a lot of them out there. But, that has little to do with a writing update. 🙂

I started on book 7 of the Tipping Point series and reached the eighty thousand plus word count yesterday. That will decrease somewhat as a part I wrote will now have to go into the next book. That amounts to some twenty thousand words, so I’m technically about two-thirds of the way through the rough draft. The timeline on these books keeps shrinking. Even though the draft is nearing completion, the story’s timeline has only advanced a few hours at best. At this point, I’m doubting the story will have progressed more than twelve hours once I’m done. That’s a lot happening in just a few hours of story. Which means that there will be an 8th book.

At the moment, I’m thinking of call this 7th book, Tipping Point: The Crossing. So, I guess you can pretty much figure out what this part of the story might entail. I won’t give any spoilers here…well, other than the title, I suppose. I have to say that it was difficult getting started back to writing once the warm weather vanished. Writing these tales just takes a lot out of me mentally. I push for about 2,500 words per weekday, which I’ve managed to stick with for the most part. These days, I can’t seem to pound on the keyboard much more than that. Much of it is that I have so much to keep track of storywise. The moving pieces are hard to remember, even though I have maps and pushpins, along with a desk calendar, to help me keep track of events and units. The other difficult thing for me is trying to find different ways to describe scenes. Much of what is taking place is the same, just with different names. The Ukrainian war is a prime example. Well, now I feel like I’m rambling and feeling sorry for myself. I do enjoy telling this story and can’t wait to find out how it ends. 🙂

I have no idea when I’ll be finished with this book, but I’m thinking it should be ready for editing close to the beginning of next year. Don’t hold me to it, though.

Writing this series often seems to be a race against time as real world events are really trying to catch up and surpass the story.  I hope this doesn’t turn out to be the case, but I’ll start hammering out the next one here very soon.  The weather around here is starting to change, which means that I won’t be heading to the mountains as often.  The winter days will be upon me and I’ll glue myself to my desk and wear my fingertips out on the keyboard.  I hope you enjoy this next chapter in the story and thank you so much for your support over the years.  Enjoy the rest of your summer.

I know it took a while for the 5th book in the Tipping Point series to become available in audiobook format, but the wait is over. Mark Gagliardi did another amazing job narrating the book and I’m thankful for him taking the time to bring these stories to life. The 5th book in the Tipping Point series, Tipping Point: Korea, is now available in eBook format on Amazon.  The paperback version will be…should be…up and ready to go by the end of today.  Mark Gagliardi has already started the narration for the audiobook and will hopefully be completed somewhere toward the end of March.  I’ll definitely keep you posted on when that come available.  I have chosen to only publish this series on Amazon as the other outlet I utilized is merging with another and the tax situation had become a nightmare.  I just don’t want to have to deal with that again, so I apologize if you purchase elsewhere.

As you’ll note in the book, the timeline is rather condensed.  It basically covers the first 48 hours or so of North Korea’s movements toward the DMZ and the reactions of the United States and Republic of Korea.  I didn’t intend for it be come out that way, it’s just that I ran out of book while telling the story.  So, there will be lots more to come from that arena.  I’m already nearly a quarter of the way through book six and I have no idea how far down the road I’ll make it with this one.  At this stage, I’m guessing there will be a 7th book, but who knows.  I’m apparently not very good at guessing how many books it takes to finish a story.

As for the fifth book, I am nearing the end of the rough draft. I’m expecting it to be ready for publication sometime in the early part of February, although that’s subject to change. I have no idea how many books it will take to complete the story, but there will a sixth one for sure.

I want to thank you again for all of the support you’ve given over the years. I’m not sure where I’ll head once this series has been completed, but I have a fantasy genre story that has been rattling around in my mind since summer. For those waiting for the next Red Team, that hasn’t been forgotten. I hope that this year brings peace and fortune into your life!
